Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development Hajiya Zainab Maina has called on stakeholders to ensure that gender gap at each level of the educational sector is reduced within the shortest possible time.
She made the call yesterday in Abuja at the meeting of the national task force on girl child education.
Maina said for Nigeria to attain sustainable human development, educational opportunities have to be equitably spread to meet the needs of the disadvantaged and marginalized group.
She said based on the Nigerian gender statistics, the proportion of females' enrolment at various levels of formal education remain lower than that of males and in spite of the important roles played by women.
She said: "There is need for them to be properly equipped and empowered with functional education to enable them face the challenges ahead."
