POLITICAL activist Mary Wambui has advised women to seek political seats. Wambui said many women are interested in vying for seats but are sometimes intimidated by men. She said the women should be empowered and financed so that they can go for the many seats in the counties and at national level.
Wambui was speaking at Westwood Hotel in the outskirts of Nyeri town yesterday during an IIEC-UN women meeting.
The two-day meeting was attended by women leaders in Nyeri county. "Women should vie for seats, including presidency. They should not be intimidated but should instead be empowered," she added. The activist-cum-businesswoman also urged police to beep up security during the festive season so that tourists can flood the country in order they can bring in foreign excahange. "We urge the drivers to be cautious this holiday and drunkards should not be allowed on the road to avoid deaths this Christmas," she added.
Wambui urged the government to immediately settle IDPs. She hoped that Special Programmes minister Esther Murugi will ensure that they are settled as soon as possible. "The government should realise that the IDPs are still in camps even at this time when other people are celebrating. It is time they are settled once and for all," she appealed. On the current wave of strikes, Wambui urged those who are affected to embrace dialogue instead of going on strike saying many might loose jobs and their families will suffer.
